Cube Tutor
A free cube-learning app with a narrated tutor, an interactive 3D cube, and practical exercises. Seventeen lessons teach the beginner method in English and Brazilian Portuguese, with no account required.
Astro Vue.js TypeScript Three.js ElevenLabs Vitest

Cube Tutor helps complete beginners learn to solve the 3×3 cube at their own pace. A narrated tutor explains each idea while an interactive 3D cube demonstrates the moves. Short exercises check understanding before the learner continues, with no account required and progress saved locally in the browser.
The course contains seventeen lessons across four parts: the cube’s history and pieces, moves and notation, the beginner layer-by-layer method, and a complete independent solve. The interface and narration are available in English and Brazilian Portuguese, with two tutor voices in each language.
Learning through interaction
The cube can be rotated to inspect any side, and individual layers can be turned with a drag or keyboard shortcuts. During lessons, turns, highlights, arrows, camera changes, and an exploded view are synchronized with narration. Word-level captions make the spoken explanation easier to follow.
Exercises are evaluated against the cube’s state rather than a prescribed move sequence. Any approach that reaches the correct goal can pass. Hints, a Show me demonstration, undo, and reset help learners work through mistakes without starting the entire lesson again.
A playground beyond the lessons
Free play provides scrambling, undo and redo, face letters, and an exploded view of the mechanism. Classic, Stickerless, and Pastel styles offer different visual treatments. Cube-turn sounds and focus music are optional, alongside light and dark themes, keyboard controls, visible focus states, captions, and reduced-motion support.
Built around a tested cube engine
Astro serves the static pages, Vue islands handle interactive interfaces, and Three.js renders the cube with physically based materials and custom drag controls. A pure TypeScript engine is the source of truth for cube state, notation, and exercise goals. Algorithm claims used by the tutor have automated tests, keeping the teaching logic grounded in the moves the cube actually performs.
ElevenLabs narration is generated ahead of time, with timestamps used to coordinate captions and demonstrations. Audio is served as static assets, so visitors do not need an AI account and no narration API key reaches the browser.
